SPECIALITY COFFEE
All coffee beans in the world are rated from 0-100 on their quality with 0 being the lowest. Most cafés and coffee shops will use beans rated 70 or below. Speciality coffee is a term reserved for beans that are rated 80 and above. It has a much richer flavour because it’s grown at a higher altitude but this mountainous terrain makes it harder to harvest and it has to be picked by hand.
At Charlie & Ginger we only serve speciality coffee, supplied by Ozone, a London-based roastery. Ozone is a Certified B Corporation, meaning they meet high social and environmental standards—so not only is your coffee delicious, it’s making a difference.
Currently we have two blends on offer: Empire, which we use for our milk-based coffees such as lattes or flat whites, and Hodson, better for water-based coffees like americanos, long blacks, and espressos. If you’re not sure what you’d prefer, chat with one of our friendly baristas for a recommendation.
BARISTA MILK
Our dairy milk is supplied by Brades Farm and has been created specifically for coffee. It is a mix of milk from Holstein-Freisian and Jersey cows, and contains additional protein which is ideal for steaming and getting that silky finish. It also has a higher percentage of butterfat which makes it taste slightly sweeter, perfect for balancing against the flavour of our coffee.
If dairy isn’t your thing, we also have a choice of oat or soya milk. Our oat milk is supplied by Minor Figures, formulated to complement the flavours of coffee. As a completely carbon-neutral company, Minor Figures is not only a delicious choice, but also an ethical one. Our soya milk comes from Happy Happy Soy Boy, another carbon-neutral company, which is a less alkaline-based soya milk, giving it a naturally sweet taste. Whether you’re vegan, lactose-intolerant, or just want to try something new, we have lots of options for you to design your perfect coffee.
LOOSE LEAF TEAS
Our tea is by the sustainable tea company Twist Teas, who produce their blends from Pollards Farm in Hertfordshire. As well as having the exceptionally tasty essentials such as TwentyFourSeven and Classic Earl, we have some more unusual blends including Ginger Snap, All That Jazz and Chamomile Yawn. Twist Teas pride themselves on producing teas that not only taste great but offer a range of benefits to our wellbeing. If you’re looking for a great-tasting hot drink that isn’t full of caffeine, then these loose-leaf teas are a great alternative.
BRUNCH
We offer a simple, healthy, and completely vegetarian brunch menu to complement our coffee which is served from when we open until 2pm, 7 days a week. Our menu changes depending on what is in season and what ingredients we can source that are of the highest possible quality in order to produce tasty and environmentally-friendly meals.
Our bread is handmade using quality ingredients, freshly baked and delivered daily from The Bread Factory, an artisanal London-based bakery. We also have gluten-free bread available and many vegan options on the menu. View our sample menu below, or visit in-store to see what seasonal meals we have.
CAKES AND PASTRIES
The bulk of our cake offering including our infamous carrot cake and insanely good biscoff cookies are now made in house at our Leatherhead shop! All Square Cakes have moved in and Irene is now filling the shop with the delicious scent of freshly baked brownies which makes resisting them even harder than usual…
Our daily pastries are delivered by The Bread Factory, but if you’re more of a cake person, then we have many options for you. We also have a varied range of vegan and gluten free options. We don’t subscribe to the idea of something being good ‘for a vegan option’. We think a cake should be amazing full stop. We’re so confident about the taste of our vegan baked goods that they are not just an option, they are the only option, and we’ve shocked many a non-vegan in the process!
BAR
During the summer of 2022, we decided to broaden our horizons into serving alcohol during our Friday Après evenings as we noticed that although Surrey has many beautiful pubs, there were no bars that rivalled London’s nearby. We created a full menu of wines, beers, and cocktails with some bar snacks to complement.
Throughout the week, we offer beers and wines from open until close—the beers are sourced from Big Smoke Brewery, a local company based in Esher, and we have a range of red, white, rosé and sparkling wines for all kinds of preferences. Our cocktails are mostly seasonal, and include classics such as the Negroni or remixes like the Minted Berry Daiquiri.
